Summer Meal Program Waivers Have Been Extended Through Sept. 30, 2021!

Please note that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced
the nationwide extension of several waivers
https://www.usda.gov/media/press-releases/2021/03/09/usda-extends-free-meals-children-through-summer-2021-due-pandemic
that allow all children to continue to receive nutritious meals this
summer. These flexibilities are available through Sept. 30, 2021! The
waivers:

  • Allow meals served through the summer meal programs
    https://www.fns.usda.gov/sfsp/summer-meals-toolkit to be made
    available in all areas at no cost;
  • Allow meals to be served outside of the normally required group
    settings and meal times (grab-and-go meals are allowable for summer 2021);
    and
  • Allow parents and guardians to pick-up meals for their children,
    including bulk pick-up to cover multiple days of feeding children.

With these waiver extensions confirmed, more libraries should be able to
serve as meal distribution sites. We encourage you to reach out to a meal
provider today. Lunch at the Library project staff can assist with helping
to connect with meal providers and/or community meal sites; and can assist
with questions regarding programming reimbursement funds. Please let us
know how we can assist!
