Dear friends:

California public library staff have two opportunities to apply for scholarships to national conferences that will be offered online in September and October.

The annual Association for Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL) conference will run virtually from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. PT from Monday, September 28, to Friday, October 2. Here'shttps://arsl.memberclicks.net/2020-conference-schedule-at-a-glance the schedule and links to more information. All participants supported by the State Library will be required to share information they've learned (whether through in-house training, staff meetings, blog post, or other form to be determined) and complete a follow-up survey to help us evaluate the value of the conference. Scholarship recipients must agree to attend at least three days, or six sessions, at the conference. Public library employees from small and/or rural libraries may applyhttps://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ARSL2020 for a scholarship no later than August 25, 2020. Former rural-/small-library employees who were furloughed or laid off because of the pandemic are also welcome to apply.

The 2020 Association of Bookmobile and Outreach Services (ABOS) conference will take place online from Tuesday, October 13, to Friday, October 16, with a full day of sessions (Central Time) each day. The list of conference sessionshttps://abos-outreach.com/resources/Documents/REVISED%20-%202020%20ABOS%20Conference%20Programs.pdf may be viewed online although the schedule is not yet available. Those receiving support must agree to: attend for at least two of the four days (or six sessions); respond to an evaluation survey; and use their learning by sharing with or teaching their colleagues, creating short presentations, or other means. Again, employees who were furloughed or laid off because of the pandemic are also welcome to apply. Applyhttps://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2020ABOS for a scholarship no later than Wednesday, September 9, 2020.

All applicants must have the approval of their library director. The California State Library will respond to your application shortly after the scholarship application dates listed above for each conference. Please contact Bev Schwartzbergmailto:beverly.schwartzberg@library.ca.gov with any questions.

This project is supported in whole or in part by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.
