Volunteer Away Your Library Fines: Reducing Barriers to Library Use
Through One-Time Volunteer Events Webinar

One-time volunteer events can be intimidating, but they can also help you
engage a whole new group of people to provide an avalanche of meaningful
service to your library.

The San José Public Library’s Volunteer Away Your Fines Program leverages
large, one-time volunteer opportunities to reduce economic barriers to
Library use. Do you struggle to find opportunities for short term
volunteers? Are you interested in starting a program where people can use
volunteer service to waive library fines? This presentation will give you
the strategies you need to empower a legion of one-time volunteers, and
provide a pathway to continued Library use in the process. Topics will
include: using community data to determine the scope of your program,
gaining staff buy-in through an inclusive planning process, identifying
appropriate roles for one-time volunteers, and creating an infrastructure
to support large one-time volunteer events.

Presenter: Jason Pell, San Jose Public Library
