S@
Summer @ Your Library
Tue, Mar 16, 2021 5:02 PM

Application Deadline: Friday, March 19th, 2021

Dear California Library Community:

We wanted to remind you that reimbursement funds for programming materials
at library summer meal sites, and at pop-up libraries at community summer
meal sites (schools/community centers/housing authorities/YMCAs etc.), are
available for Summer 2021.

Applications are due this Friday, March 19th. 2021*.*

To complete an application and for more information please visit:
https://lunchatthelibrary.org/grants-for-libraries/

Summer Meal Program Waivers Have Been Extended Through Sept. 30, 2021!

Please note that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced
the nationwide extension of several waivers
https://www.usda.gov/media/press-releases/2021/03/09/usda-extends-free-meals-children-through-summer-2021-due-pandemic
that allow all children to continue to receive nutritious meals this
summer. These flexibilities are available through Sept. 30, 2021! The
waivers:

  • Allow meals served through the summer meal programs
    https://www.fns.usda.gov/sfsp/summer-meals-toolkit to be made
    available in all areas at no cost;
  • Allow meals to be served outside of the normally required group
    settings and meal times (grab-and-go meals are allowable for summer 2021);
    and
  • Allow parents and guardians to pick-up meals for their children,
including bulk pick-up to cover multiple days of feeding children.

With these waiver extensions confirmed, more libraries should be able to
serve as meal distribution sites. We encourage you to reach out to a meal
provider today. Lunch at the Library project staff can assist with helping
to connect with meal providers and/or community meal sites; and can assist
with questions regarding programming reimbursement funds. Please let us
know how we can assist!

Dear California Library Summer Meal Community:

The Lunch at the Library project is pleased to provide support to libraries
offering 2021 summer meal programs.

The project will provide reimbursement for the cost of programming
materials for library meal sites and pop-up library programming at

All California public library jurisdictions interested in serving as summer
meal distribution sites during Summer 2021, and/or planning to take pop-up
library programming out to community meal sites, are encouraged to apply
for this LSTA funding opportunity!

Reimbursement Funding:
Once funding requests have been received we will work to divide the
reimbursement funds as equitably as possible among applying libraries.
Reimbursement allocation levels will not be set until all requests for
funds have been received and after the application deadline.

Estimated reimbursement allocation levels:

$1000-$2000 in reimbursements for programming materials for each new
first-time library outlet serving as a meal distribution site

$500-$1000 in reimbursements for programming materials for each library
outlet already established as a meal distribution site

$500-$750 in reimbursements for programming materials for pop-up library
locations at a community meal distribution site (Due to the volume of
pop-up library locations, we may not be able to award reimbursement funds
to all pop-up library sites.)

Application Submission Details:
Please submit one application per library jurisdiction that includes all of
your branch funding requests.
