Online library card application

Hi,

How many of you all have an online library card application that is available off site?  Do you have them accept an agreement before they are able to apply?  Do you bundle up your internet agreement with that or not?  What about minors?  Do you still have them sign something in person?

We have an online card application, but they still have to fill out most of a paper application in person, which seems a waste of time and resources.  I'm working on a solution.

I look forward to your replies.

Thank you!
Jenn

Hi Jennifer,

At the City of Palo Alto Library, we have our library card application pretty much exclusively online that can be accessed from any computer with internet. Even when people come to the desk to get a card, we take them to a computer to sign up. Here is a link: https://cpalo.iii.com/selfreg  Customers get a temporary number that they can use to place requests, but they have to show ID at the library to get a full-service card. We don't keep anything in paper, so we don't have to shred anything.

This has been great for us as we don't have to try to spell those long names, or struggle with complicated email addresses.

As you can see, there is an agreement at the bottom of the page and they are deemed to have signed it when they click Submit.
