Excuse any dupes!

Dear California Library Community,

We’d like to invite you to present at our 4th Annual Adult Services Symposium. We welcome applications from all library staff members and your community partners. There’s still time to apply and the application is brief. Travel reimbursements are provided for presenters. Read on for more info or feel free to reach out to me by email.

The call for presenters for the 4th Annual Adult Services Symposium is now open! The Adult Services Symposium is designed to inspire, show, and share how libraries are successfully bringing adult and intergenerational groups in their communities together to read, learn, discuss, and connect. Learn more about the goals of this event and California Center for the Book https://calbook.org/about/about-ccfb/ before applying. This grant-funded professional development event is part of California Library Association’s Spring Fling programming. Library staff and community partners will be invited to attend. Attendee registration will open in February.

SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE JANUARY 17, 2020 at 5:00pm, with notifications in early February. Presentation submissions should fit clearly with the theme of GATHER, both as it relates to the community and as it relates to libraries across California gathering together. Our inspirational book is The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters by Priya Parker. Estimate 10-15 minutes per presentation with time for Q&A at the end of the session and during an informal breakout session the last hour of the day.

Slides are optional. A required Presenter Planning Session will be held via Zoom on February 12, 2020 from 10:00am – 11:00am, so please tentatively save the date. Slides (if using) will be due one week before the Symposium. An optional, non-grant funded meet-up and book chat (on The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why it Matters by Priya Parker) will be held on Wednesday, March 25, the evening before the Symposium. Travel costs are covered via reimbursement for presenters.

Presentations will be grouped into themed panels, all relating to the theme of GATHER, with plenty of time for conversation throughout the day.  Below are possible panel themes. On the application, there is an option to select a panel for your presentation, or to suggest an additional panel / topic. Possible panel topics include:
